Sam Macedone is the principal of Macedone Legal and an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law. With 50 years experience across all aspects of the law, he has established a reputation as a legal expert. Sam appears frequently as a legal commentator on Channel Nine’s Today Show, A Current Affair and various radio stations.

Sam’s main professional focus is in criminal advocacy work and selected commercial litigation. During an extensive career, he has been involved in a number of high profile trials, both criminal and civil, some of which are:

  • The euthanasia/murder case of Caren Jenning involving the death of ex-Qantas pilot, Graeme Wylie,

  • The case of Curtis Scott, NSW NRL player, who was unlawfully detained by NSW Police.

Sam has had the conduct of matters in the Local Court, District Court, Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the Court of Criminal Appeal and in the High Court of Australia.

Passionate about Legal Rights

While Sam is passionate about all aspects of the law, he is most passionate about preserving the legal rights of the individual and in so doing, preventing the innocent from being convicted of a criminal offence. He has a reputation for fearlessly defending his clients in all legal situations.  He fights for his client’s rights and is relentless against any form of corruption.

In recognition of his contribution to improving access to justice in New South Wales, (particularly for socially and economically disadvantaged people), he has been nominated for the Law and Justice Foundation’s Pro Bono Partnership Award on three occasions in recognition of his work with/contribution to Enough is Enough.

Board Representation and Memberships

Sam is a past Board of Management member of the Enough is Enough organisation, an organisation he assisted with pro bono work.

Sam is a past president and current life member of the St George Sutherland Regional Law Society and an honorary solicitor of various organisations and associations. Sam was a past chairman and executive director of Austlaw Pty Ltd, an association of independent law firms throughout New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

Sam was awarded the prestigious 2013 NSW Law Society Presidents Medal.  The medal is awarded annually by the Law Society of NSW to one of its members in recognition of that member’s significant personal and professional contributions to the betterment of law and justice in the community.   It is an award that he is profoundly proud of.
